An extensive extended voyage circling the Land Down Under is being halted days after the death of an elderly lady who was left behind by the vessel on a isolated island.

Suzanne Rees had been walking on the tropical location with other travelers from the cruise ship, but separated from the group for a break. The liner left without her and returned after some time after the crew discovered the lady was not present.

A major search operation found her remains the next day.

Officials are looking into the event, alongside investigators and the state coroner.

Head of the voyage organizer stated that guests and personnel on the Coral Adventurer were informed that the remainder of the journey had been terminated due to the "sad loss and earlier mechanical issues".

Through an announcement, he mentioned that passengers would be provided a full refund, and said the company was working "to arrange the travel back of the travelers via private aircraft".

Officials also published an revised statement, and said they had "delivered a order to the Captain" prohibiting any further travelers from entering the vessel.

The spokesperson said that they would inspect the ship in Cairns upon its arrival.

"They requested her to go back, alone. Then the ship departed, apparently without conducting a passenger count.

"At some stage in that sequence, or not long after, she passed away, alone."

Operator Response

Through an announcement, the Head verified that the operator was "collaborating extensively with authorities to assist their investigation".

He said that the firm was "deeply sorry that this has occurred" and had provided its total backing to the family.

The ship serves up to a hundred twenty passengers with nearly fifty crew, according to corporate information. It was specially constructed to reach remote regions of Australia's coast and is outfitted with "tenders" - compact vessels used to take passengers on day excursions.
